What is Reiki?

“Reiki is wisdom and truth.” – Hawayo Takata

“Reiki”, as a word, consists of two parts or Japanese Kanji — “rei” meaning “spiritual” and “ki” meaning the vital life force energy which flows through all things.

Reiki, thus, means universal life energy, or the cosmic energy field within and around all of us. It is that power which acts and lives in all created matter.

Many races, cultures and religions have always been aware of the existence of an invisible “life force energy” which corresponds to the meaning of “ki”. Thus “ki” is named:

* Chi by the Chinese,
* Prana by the Hindus,
* Light, or Holy Ghost, by the Christians,
* Mana by the Kahunas and
* Bioplasmic energy by the Russian researchers

Reiki, as a healing system, is one of the most simple and natural healing methods we know of. In Reiki treatments, this neutral and concentrated form of cosmic energy – the Universal life force energy – is transferred to the areas that need it, and the only thing required for treating is your hands.

Once a person “learns Reiki”, i.e. once he is “initiated” to become a “channel” of Reiki, concentrated life energy will flow through his hands of its own accord, and he will retain this ability for the rest of his life.

Reiki is holistic in effect. It helps us regain the state of perfect health or wholeness. It restores balance and harmony in the body’s “life force”, thereby eliminating stress and disease. It is a healing method in the broadest sense of the word. It reaches all levels of existence, and heals us at the physical, mental, emotional, and karmic layers of our body.
